As Sierra Leone’s economy continues to be on Life Support with high cost and low standards of living engulfing and to a large extent suffocating many and with barely five months to Presidential, Parliamentary and Municipal Elections, President Julius Maada Bio has sacked his Finance Minister, Denis Vandy to be replaced by Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura.
However, many have expressed the view that the President’s decision to get rid of his Finance Minister will not in any iota change the economic woes and challenges many Sierra Leoneans are currently wallowing in and face on daily basis. Some have termed it as a cosmetic change signifying nothing.
President Julius Maada Bio and has sacked Finance Minister, Denis Vandy
Some have speculated that the Finance Minister’s sacking has to do with the IMF and the Government, through the Finance Ministry, falling out on certain critical economic issues adding that the IMF is refusing to release certain funds it agreed to offer, the misuse of funds as indicated in the latest Auditor General’s Report exposing the SLPP Government of gross financial impropriety etc.
The Auditor General’s Report has caused serious embarrassment for especially the President and the Government in particular exposing a political class that instituted Commissions of Inquiry ,that found members of the erstwhile APC led Government culpable of enmeshing in deep corrupt practices, of involvement in corruption saying this is highly contradictory and laughable.
