The Sierra Leone Commission on Arms and Ammunition (SLeCAA) has issued directives to individuals who had obtained firearms (gun) licenses and have failed to renew their Firearms licenses yearly as required by section 22, subsection (1) of the Arms and Ammunition ACT No.24 of 2023.

The Commission calls on all persons who have failed to renew their firearm licenses to do so with immediate effect.
SLeCAA emphasized that failing to renew a firearm license is an offence liable, on conviction to a fine of not less than ten thousand Leones (New Leones) or a term of imprisonment of not less than 5 years or to both fine and imprisonment.

The Commission strongly advises individuals who are unable to renew their firearms licenses to surrender their firearms to the Commission’s headquarter at State Avenue on or before the expiration date of their firearms licenses, failing to do so will leave the commissioner with no option but to institute a warrant of arrest for all defaulters.

The commission caution that anyone found in possession of firearms without a valid license issued by the Registrar and Commissioner of SLeCAA; will be prosecuted and the full penalty of the law enshrined in section 22 sub-section 3 of the SLeCAA Act no 24 of 2023 will be enforced
