Sierra Leone’s national football team, the Leone Stars, is gearing up to host the Riverians de la Mer Rouge of Djibouti in a pivotal home match on Matchday 3 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Africa Qualifiers. The showdown is scheduled for June 3rd, 2024, at the Ben M’Hamed El Abdi Stadium in El Jadida, Morocco.

Having previously secured a point from matches against Ethiopia and Egypt, the Leone Stars are determined to clinch their first victory in the qualifiers. Their journey began with a draw against Ethiopia, followed by a defeat to Egypt in Group A back in November 2023.

Ranked 126th globally, Sierra Leone enters the match as the favourite, holding a significant advantage over Djibouti, who have positioned 66 places below them. The 15,000-seater Ben M’Hamed El Abdi Stadium, home to Difaa El Jadida, will serve as the battleground for this crucial encounter.

With Egypt leading Group A with six points, followed closely by Burkina Faso and Guinea Bissau, Sierra Leone is eager to climb the ranks by securing a victory against Djibouti. Ethiopia and Sierra Leone are currently tied on one point each, while Djibouti has yet to secure any points after two consecutive losses.

Following their match against Djibouti, Sierra Leone will face Burkina Faso in Matchday 4 on June 10th, 2024. The Leone Stars are poised for a fierce battle as they strive to advance in the World Cup qualifiers and make their mark on the global stage.
