Sierra Leone’s passport has slipped one spot in the 2025 Henley Global Passport Index, ranking 76th out of 199 countries, a slight decline from its 75th position in 2024.
The index, compiled by Henley & Partners, assesses passports based on the number of destinations their holders can visit without requiring a visa.
According to the latest rankings, Sierra Leonean passport holders can travel visa-free to 66 destinations worldwide, including countries across Africa, the Caribbean, and Asia.
While the overall ranking has dipped, the passport remains an important travel document, granting access to various international destinations.
Regionally, Sierra Leone ranks 19th in Africa, maintaining a stronger passport than neighboring Liberia and Guinea. Although not among the most powerful globally, it continues to offer significant travel opportunities for its citizens.
At the lower end of the index, South Sudan, Somalia, Libya, Eritrea, Sudan, and Nigeria hold some of the least powerful passports on the continent, with greater travel restrictions limiting their visa-free access.
While Sierra Leone’s passport ranking has seen a minor drop, its standing in the region remains stable. However, continuous diplomatic efforts and international partnerships could help improve its global mobility in the future.
