Sierra Leone Missing in 2023 ICT Development Index Report

Sierra Leone has been left out in a new report released by the ICT Development Index 2023 .

The reports which focus on Progress in ICT in various countries was conducted in 169 countries globally. However, statistics for Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia were not captured.

The report highlights significant progress in the development of ICT in Africa, although there are significant gaps between countries. Morocco, in the lead, accumulates more than 85 points out of 100 while Chad brings up the rear 65 points below.

Entitled “Measuring digital development: The ICT Development Index 2023 (IDI),” the report assesses ICT progress in 169 countries and territories around the world based on 10 key indicators.


These indicators include the percentage of people using the internet, mobile broadband penetration, mobile broadband internet traffic, mobile data prices, voice services, and mobile phone ownership.

On a global scale, the United Arab Emirates occupy the first step of the podium with a score of 100 points, ahead of the United States (99.1 points), Qatar (98.7), Kuwait (98.2) and Denmark (96.9).

Morocco is the country with the highest level of development of information and communication technologies (ICT) in Africa.

The average score for all countries and territories studied around the world is 72.8 points. However, the ranking shows that there is a strong correlation between countries’ performance and their income levels.

The average score for low-income countries is 31.5 points, compared to 62 points for lower-middle-income countries, 76.4 points for upper-middle-income countries, and 90.1 points for high-income countries.
