SAFMI To Save Sierra Leone from Malaria

Save Africa from Malaria Infection (SAFMI) Foundation is a non-profit organization that is currently in Sierra Leone to help in the fight against malaria infection.

As part of its engagements, on Wednesday 5th June 2024, members of the Save Africa from Malaria Infection Foundation dedicated its efforts in combating malaria in the Western Rural Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone. 

Speaking on behalf of the Foundation the Executive Director of Save Africa from Malaria Infection, Mr. Artem Volchenko described the engagement as timely and very important in the saving of lives from malaria infection that has the proclivity to claim lives.

 “Today is a day of celebration of the beginning of a brighter future for t Sierra Leone,” he assured, adding that, as they have established their organization in Sierra Leone to help the government of Sierra Leone in the fight against malaria infection.

 Mr. Artem Volchenko further stated that, they have brought in the special Gambusia Fish which is also known as mosquitofish that is highly effective in the fight against malaria. He disclosed that the Gambusia Fish are known for their ability to eat mosquito larvae, which helps in controlling mosquito populations and reducing the spread of diseases like malaria. He continued by stating that, mosquito have ravaged lots of people in the world and it is still claiming lots of lives in Africa. He revealed further that, every second someone will die of malaria infection in the world.  

“ Today, our foundation is engaging community people in the Western Rural Area on ways to prevent malaria and  also to share love by providing food items to children,” he said, stating further that, their goal is to educate more people on the dangers of malaria infection and make the country and the economy of Sierra Leone greater. He revealed further that, they are expecting to grow more Gambusia fish so that they can boost the fight against malaria in Sierra Leone and create a safer community and people from the malaria infection. He continued by stating that, after growing more Gambusia fish, it will be distributed to hospitals and other places in Sierra Leone.

He further expressed their unwavering stance in the fight against Malaria by stating that, Malaria is a significant public health issue in the region, with the WHO African Region bearing a disproportionately high burden of malaria cases and deaths globally.

Mr. Volchenko further added, based on that the Save Africa from Malaria Infection (SAFMI) was designed to help WHO and other partners in the fight against malaria in Africa. He continued by emphasizing on preventive measures of the locals as against malaria infection.
