The finals of the West Inter-Secondary School which climaxed on Wednesday 1st March saw Prince Of Wales thrashed their neighbours St. Edwards Secondary School to a 2-0 scores.
Emmanuel Combay and Alie Fofanah first half goals were enough to book Prince Of Wales a comfortable place in the finals after twenty six (26) years since they last played and lift the prestigious trophy.
Prince Of Wales Head Coach Wahid Sillah insisted that he was only bothered about winning the Western Urban Grand Final, and that his boys were trained better to tame and contain Old Edwardians to a comfortable win which happened as planned.
Speaking to Owl Sports, Wahid said that he was impressed with his side’s performance, but was focused on going all the way to lift the champions’ trophy after twenty six years since they last won it. “The performance was quite good, I’m quite happy with it. I think we started the game very well, there was good energy and good focus;” Wahid said.
He continued saying that they pinned their opponents in their half, created chances, and got their two first goals. “I think the whole team performed beyond expectations because Edwards have been together for a while now. A brilliant and team goals were great”, stated the proud coach.
The praises befell Technical team mates Fallah and Coach Abdulai Kaloga for a job well done. He said: “They all played pivotal in taking us to where we are today. The Principal (George Abiodun Lefevre), Mr Vivian Walter Macfoy, our erudite Mr Kargbo, SLFA VP 1 Harold Nat Johnson, Christian Dauda, Zaenu Deen Karim and Sulaiman Rahman Kamara (President Old Prince Walean Association) for their financial and moral support to us that far”.
Asked whether his side was better to win next week’s final, the confident replied saying that “We thrashed Collegiate and Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood in the quarter and semifinals and one expected us to reach this far, so let’s see what the future holds for these lads in next week’s final”.
In concluding, Wahid said no matter how long a journey is, it’ll always lead you to destination and as the motto of the school says, ‘Forward ever backward never’ he warned that Princewaleans must always look forward to.
