Over Misconduct: 41 Police Officers Dismissed, 198 Suspended Following 2024 Investigations

The Sierra Leone Police Force has confirmed the dismissal of 41 police officers and the suspension of 198 others after being found guilty of various misconducts in 2024. The announcement was made by the Director of Professional Standards, AIG Francis Harley, during a press conference held at the Police Headquarters.

AIG Harley disclosed that the officers were investigated and found guilty through police tribunals conducted by the Complaint Discipline Internal Investigations Department (CDIID).

The dismissals and suspensions are part of ongoing efforts to maintain professionalism and integrity within the force.In addition to addressing misconduct, AIG Harley highlighted the force’s commitment to capacity building.

“We have conducted 27 different training programs for personnel across the country, focusing on areas such as scientific lab work, ICT, human rights, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), cybersecurity, and law,” he said.

Adding to the measures taken, the Director of Operations, AIG John Martin Senesie, noted improvements in cyber security within the force. He revealed that 38 CCTV cameras have been installed across the Western Area and at Mile 38 to monitor criminal activities and ensure the proper conduct of police personnel.

Meanwhile, Regional Police Commander East, AIG Andrew Kamara, addressed a recent incident involving Guinean officials in Yenga, Kailahun District. The Guinean officials attempted to register Sierra Leoneans in the area but faced resistance from local stakeholders. Following engagement with police, military personnel, and the Office of National Security (ONS), both sides agreed to consult community stakeholders before taking further actions.

AIG Kamara reassured the public that the overall security situation in the country remains calm and stable. The police continue to work towards ensuring peace and order while addressing internal issues and external challenges effectively.
