
Orange Mobile Company Sierra Leone Limited, in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) successfully organized this year’s “Green Run” under the theme “Engage for Earth: No Plastic Pollution.”
Led by Catherine Johnson, the Legal Adviser of the Orange SL, the delegation visited the Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai and his team on Tuesday, 10th June 2025, to officially present the winners of the 10-Kilometer Awareness Marathon held in Freetown.
Madam Johnson commended the outstanding efforts of all participants and highlighted the significance of the event in promoting environmental awareness. “Orange SL is celebrating the incredible performance of our top three winners,” she said Gibrilla Kanu emerged as the overall winner, completing the route from Cotton Tree to Aberdeen Car Park in impressive 34 minutes.
He was closely followed by Samuel Mansaray, who clocked at 34.06 minutes, and Amadu Sarjor Samura, who finished third with 34.08 minutes. Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai expressed his appreciation to Orange SL for their continued support of sporting initiatives that align with national priorities.
“I am highly impressed with the performances displayed during the marathon,” Dr. Abdulai said.
“Events like this not only raise awareness on critical issues such as plastic pollution, but also help identify athletic talent for platforms such as the Youth Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games.”
He reaffirmed the NSA’s commitment to fostering sports development across the country. “We will no longer settle for mere participation—we are training to compete and win, proudly flying the green, white, and blue,” he emphasized.Also present was Mr. Steven Kaifala, NSA Director of Participation, who applauded the initiative and assured continued collaboration with Orange SL in upcoming competitions and informed them about the Kings Barton event which will be held on the 16th June, 2025.
The Green Run marks another step forward in using sports as a tool for advocacy and youth engagement, reinforcing Sierra Leone’s collective commitment to environmental sustainability and athletic excellence.
In his conclusion the Executive Director also engaged the head of Corporate Affairs orange SL about sports messages for the sport development fund, the corporate affairs manager encourage the NSA boss to engage and see how to move it forward.
