Hon. Abdul Kargbo has called for a more robust ECOWAS early warning system to prevent conflicts and enhance political stability across the region.

Speaking at the ECOWAS Parliament, he stressed that no member state could achieve meaningful development without a stable political environment.

He highlighted the role of the ECOWAS Early Warning and Response Network (ECOWARN), which monitors security threats, crime, environmental risks, governance, and health indicators.

However, he pointed out that data collected through ECOWARN must be effectively analyzed and utilized to prevent crises before they escalate. To improve regional stability, Hon. Kargbo recommended high-level diplomatic missions focused on fact-finding, discreet diplomacy, and applying diplomatic pressure to facilitate dialogue in times of tension.

He also emphasized the need to strengthen national early warning centers, ensuring that member states have the capacity to respond proactively to emerging threats.Addressing existing challenges, he noted gaps in translating warnings into concrete action and called for structural improvements in the system.

Strengthening early warning mechanisms, he argued, would enhance crisis prevention efforts and support democracy promotion across ECOWAS.

His recommendations come at a critical time when the region faces increasing political and security challenges, making the need for a more effective early warning framework even more urgent.
