The Government of Sierra Leone has urgently recalled its Ambassador to Guinea, Mr. Alimamy Bangura, following a serious drug-related incident involving the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Conakry.
In a presss release issued on Thursday 16th January 2025 the government through the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation stated that on January 13, 2025, Guinean authorities informed the Sierra Leonean government that a vehicle belonging to the Embassy of Sierra Leone in Conakry was impounded.
The driver and another occupant of the vehicle were detained on suspicion of possessing substances suspected to be cocaine.In response to this alarming development, the Government of Sierra Leone has launched a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Ambassador Bangura has been summoned to Freetown to provide a full account of the events.
The government has pledged to ensure that all individuals involved in this case will be held accountable, in accordance with both Sierra Leonean and international drug trafficking laws.
The Government of Sierra Leone is collaborating closely with Guinean authorities to verify the facts of the case. A government spokesperson stated, “We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and will not tolerate any form of illegal activity, especially within our diplomatic missions.
Those found guilty will face the full force of the law.”As the investigation continues, the government has committed to keeping the public informed with regular updates.
