The Freetown City Council (FCC) has launched an investigation into missing funds within its billboard department, following revelations by Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr. Speaking on the “Good Morning Salone” program on AYV TV, the mayor disclosed that discrepancies in financial records were uncovered as of November 2024.

The development comes in the wake of allegations that NLe 200,000 was deposited into an unauthorized account created in 2017. The discovery has sparked concerns about financial management and transparency within the council.

To address the issue, the FCC has established an internal committee to examine the matter and identify those responsible. In addition, the council has officially reported its findings to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and is cooperating fully with the ongoing probe.

As investigations continue, the public remains keenly interested in the outcome, particularly regarding potential accountability measures for those implicated in the financial mismanagement.
