In a recent development stirring controversy, Deputy Minister of Sports Kai Lawrence Mbayo has made a public appeal for justice, alleging interference by Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh in a high-profile case involving a missing diamond.

The accusations surfaced in a viral video where Mbayo expressed his frustrations over the vice president’s alleged role in the release of key suspects from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The incident centers around a business tycoon from the eastern region of Sierra Leone and his associates, who were reportedly released from CID custody under the orders of Vice President Jalloh.

Mbayo claimed that Jalloh admitted to intervening in the case due to a personal connection with the suspect’s father, who had supported him during his educational pursuits in Kono.”I called him to inquire about the release of the suspects, and he confirmed that he was responsible for their release,” Mbayo stated in the video.

He further accused the vice president of obstructing the legal process and preventing the case from reaching the courts.Mbayo expressed his concern over the perceived miscarriage of justice, stating, “I believe that with the vice president’s involvement, justice will be denied.” He called for the intervention of President Julius Maada Bio and the broader Sierra Leonean public to ensure justice is served.

The deputy minister’s allegations have sparked debates, with some political observers suggesting that the accusations are part of a broader political scheme. A political commentator, defending Jalloh, argued that the vice president is innocent of the claims and suggested that internal party rivalries might be at play.

“There are senior members of the Sierra Leone People’s Party who feel threatened by the rapport between the president and Jalloh, and they may be using Mbayo to undermine him,” the commentator speculated.

As the situation unfolds, the vice president has yet to issue an official statement addressing the allegations. Meanwhile, the public and various political factions await further developments in this contentious matter.
