On the occasion of International Women’s Day, prominent lawyer and potential APC flagbearer, Ady Macauley, has highlighted the urgent need for action to address gender inequality in Sierra Leone.

In a statement shared on social media, Macauley referenced the United Nations’ report which ranks Sierra Leone 155th out of 162 countries for gender equality.

This ranking is based on several critical indicators, including education, adolescent birth rates, and maternal mortality rates.

Macauley stressed that despite some progress, Sierra Leone still has a long way to go in ensuring that women and girls have equal opportunities for education, health, and overall well-being. He called on all stakeholders to accelerate efforts in improving these indicators and creating a more equitable society.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let’s recommit to accelerating action for women and girls,” Macauley wrote, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in advancing the rights and opportunities for women in Sierra Leone.

Macauley is calling on all stakeholders to accelerate action to bridge these gender gaps and ensure better opportunities and rights for women and girls across the country.

“As the world celebrates the achievements of women, let us use this moment to recommit to tackling the barriers that hold back women and girls in Sierra Leone. The path to gender equality requires focused, continuous effort from all sectors of society

“His call for action aligns with ongoing efforts by various organizations and advocates to empower women, reduce gender-based violence, and improve the social, economic, and political status of women in Sierra Leone.

Macauley’s statement serves as a timely reminder of the work that remains to be done, and his commitment to advocating for change in the country resonates with the need for urgent and sustained action to achieve gender equality.
