ALARMING & SHAMEFUL… Tribal Chief Vies For SLPP Western Region Chairman

As the campaign for Regional and National elective positions for the Sierra Leone Peoples Party heats up, a new phenomenon in the Western Region has caught the eyes of political pundits and observers alike.

Reports gathered indicate that the majority of non-Mende contestants for the upcoming constituency level elections who previously had positions but lost the elections, lost predominantly to Mende candidates.

Of national concern is the Mende Tribal Chief – Hindolo Moseray’s involvement in the race to lead the SLPP in the Western Region. We gathered that he is a Southerner. He doubles as Chairman National Assets and Government Property Commission at New England Ville, Freetown.

Whether this is a strategy of the SLPP for the next general elections or just a random coincidence, most observers find it difficult to see the merit of such a move. Already, the majority of cabinet ministers and political appointees are “deemed” to be South-Easterners. Is the SLPP on a drive to dominate the politics of the Western Area with Mendes?

While such a strategy may play directly into the hands of the opposition parties, the idea of not encouraging tribal diversity in our politics is of bad taste to the majority of well-meaning Sierra Leoneans.

The SLPP needs to go back to the drawing board when it comes to their politicking in the Western Area?

Several efforts to get his side proved futile but we shall keep on trying.
