The Sierra Leone Premier League’s governing body has mandated pre-match and post-match press conferences for all games, aiming to enhance the league’s reputation

This new directive, announced by the Premier League Board (PLB), is set to take effect immediately and aims to increase the league’s visibility on both local and international stages.

In the press release dated 28th January, 2025 the PLB outlined that these press engagements will not only provide fans and stakeholders with deeper insights into the league but will also serve as a platform to boost its credibility.

Pre-Match Press Conferences must be held at least one day before each match, and they will feature the head coach and team captain of the respective teams. Discussions will revolve around team readiness, strategies, and expectations for the upcoming game, while the Post-Match Press Conferences must be done immediately after each game, these sessions will include the head coach and a key player.

They will provide an opportunity to analyze the match, highlight key moments, and reflect on team performance.

The PLB has emphasized the importance of professionalism during these press events, urging clubs to ensure proper arrangements for media access and participation.

Clubs are also tasked with coordinating with media representatives in a timely manner to ensure smooth execution.

Sampha Hassan Kamara, Secretary of the Premier League Board, noted the significance of this development in building the league’s brand: “Your cooperation in implementing this directive is essential to branding the Sierra Leone Premier League as a respected competition.”

The introduction of mandatory press conferences is expected to bring Sierra Leone’s football league in line with international standards, providing a platform for players and coaches to engage with the media and fans effectively.

The PLB also sees this as an opportunity to foster greater transparency and excitement among supporters while attracting international attention to the country’s football scene.

Local clubs and media personnel have been urged to adapt quickly to this new requirement and ensure seamless execution.
