The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) has taken decisive action to combat unlawful activities within its jurisdiction by introducing a set of new regulations.

This move comes as part of the Council’s commitment to ensuring a safe, clean, and organized environment for residents, with enforcement backed by Section 98 of the Local Government Act of 2022.

The Council’s Rural District Police (RDP) Department has issued a stern warning, emphasizing several critical rules that all residents and groups must adhere to:

Improper Disposal of Garbage: Residents are prohibited from dumping garbage in streets, public spaces, or unauthorized locations. Proper disposal methods must be followed to maintain cleanliness in the community.

Unauthorized Use of Streets and Public Spaces: The use of streets for activities such as storing materials, running welding shops, or converting public spaces into garages is strictly forbidden without prior permission from the Council.

Unauthorized Construction: All building activities must receive a valid permit from the Council before commencing. Any construction undertaken without the necessary authorization will be considered illegal.

Substandard Rental Facilities: Renting out properties lacking essential facilities, such as toilets, bathrooms, and kitchens, is now prohibited. Landlords must ensure that their rental properties meet basic living standards.

Unauthorized Advertising: Displaying banners, billboards, or other forms of advertisement without obtaining Council approval is banned. All advertising activities must be cleared through the appropriate channels.

Failure to comply with these regulations will result in severe penalties, including fines of up to NLe 5,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.

These measures are in line with Section 98(2)(a) of the Local Government Act, which gives the Council the authority to enforce these rules.

WARDC’s leadership has underscored its commitment to maintaining order and discipline across the district. Residents are strongly encouraged to follow these guidelines to avoid any enforcement actions, which will be implemented without further warnings.

This directive was issued under the authority of the Western Area Rural District Council, through the Office of the Chairman.
