The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has been a cornerstone of Sierra Leone’s political sphere since its inception, and it is impossible to recount its rich history without paying homage to the indelible contributions of the Honorable Alhaji Musa Tarawally. His familial legacy, intertwined with the party’s roots and his relentless dedication to the SLPP, has been a driving force in its sustainability and success.
Hon. Tarawally’s political lineage is deeply entrenched within the SLPP. His grandfather was a founding member, and his father, a close aide to Sierra Leone’s first Prime Minister, Sir Milton Margai. Musa Tarawally’s political journey with the SLPP began in 1989, while he was still a secondary school student, demonstrating his early commitment to the party’s ideals.
His fervor for the party’s advancement continued as he supported former President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah in the pivotal elections of 1996 and 2002. During the latter, he was instrumental in the strategic team, alongside Dr. Prince Harding, to secure an overwhelming 72% victory for President Kabbah.
In 2004, displaying foresight and conviction, Hon. Tarawally championed the leadership of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, a stance that led to his unjust removal from Parliament by opponents who failed to see the wisdom in his vision. Despite this setback, his unwavering belief in President Bio’s leadership never waned.
The 2018 runoff elections saw Hon. Tarawally once again at the forefront, contributing significantly to the SLPP’s triumphant return to power, thus validating his longstanding vision for President Bio’s leadership. In the 2023 campaign, he mobilized community and traditional leaders, further cementing his role as a pivotal figure in the party’s continued dominance.
The rallying cry of “Agenda Musa Tarawally 2028” has become synonymous with hope and unity, as Tarawally’s aspirations for the SLPP flagbearship gain momentum. His popularity among the grassroots is a testament to his integrity, goodwill, and his relentless pursuit of the people’s welfare.
A strategist and a statesman, Hon. Alhaji Musa Tarawally is the embodiment of nationalism and peace. His developmental agenda is designed to work in tandem with President Bio’s administration to propel Sierra Leone towards greater heights.
